Last month…

Posted under Projects & Thoughts

August was a hectic month with work from SISTERS Magazine. I had to design almost half the magazine in like 2 or 3 weeks, and that isnt easy when you are new at it!! (which is why i havent been posting here much). It was a lot of hard work but also great experience, which will be very very useful to me in the very near future :D
Anyway check out the Autumn 08 issue of the mag, its awesome. i aint just saying it coz im part of the team, it really IS awesome!! and im a guy! We even have a free taster if you don’t believe me :)

Also finished an advert for a new nasheed artist, Abdullah Rolle, who will be launching his new album at the GPU. Catch the advert which is now airing on Islam Channel, or you can watch the Abdullah Rolle advert here (a better version is up on my facebook for those who know me).

And lastly, here is a free ramadhan wallpaper for you to download and pretty-up your machines. Courtesy of my good friends over at VD and IDH :) enjoy.

now that work has eased up a lil i can relax a bit and finally play on my new ps3 :D …untill next week when its back to busy with the Winter edition of SISTERS Mag!

artistically unique

Posted under Aligraphy

After putting this up on facebook, Ruh bhai showed me his version of the word Qalam which he done a few years back, and it looked shockingly similar! Its kinda funny coz i aspire to be as good as him some day (inshaAllah), so its like taking the whole ‘following in his footsteps’ and ‘ great minds think alike’ to a whole new level. the night before i also saw a piece by Samir Malik which looked kinda similar to the 1st hub piece that i did. it makes you wonder if whether you can be ‘unique’ anymore. it seems as though most variations have been covered, so even if you think you created something original, somewhere out there somebody else may have already done something similar.  Guess we will have to keep innovating with new mediums to keep the sense of originality alive.

p.s Islam Expo was wickid!!

collabo with Teakster

noor

This is a collaboration with Teakster. i did the calligraphy and he did everything else (background, effects, etc). It reads ‘noor’ which is ‘light’ in arabic.

comics

Posted under Aligraphy & Thoughts

So i finally watched Batman Begins last night. i know, im slow. Especially as im a BIG Batman buff. My excuses for not watching it sooner: it didnt look all that great, i clocked the game and i didnt think Bale suited the role (i wanted to play Batman :( ). But as The Dark Knight is coming out and this one looks good i thought i should stop sulking and just wacth it. it wernt as bad as i expected (or maybe my expectations were REALLY low). Next one will have the Joker though, which is destined to be good. and it seems as though they made him psychotic as he should be. we’ll see how it plays out.

Anyway as i was just randomly browsing the net, i come across a Muslim artist who makes comic strips! Being the nerd i am, i’m obviously gonna bookmark his page n check it on the regular lol. Check out Br Shaik’s work :)

Admiring Visual Dhikr

Posted under Random

The VD portfolio is like a gallery representing the true reflection of Islamicly inspired art with a hint of western flavour. As most of the pieces are digitally created, they utilise the best of modern day technology with the traditional calligraphic scripts used by man for hundreds of years. The outcome; a beautiful fusion of old school with new school, which are visually appealing whilst also incorporating strong beliefs. Hence the term ‘Visual Dhikr’.

As a beginner in the field myself, I study other artists work a lot. Ruh bhai is the one person who I most admire and wish to learn from. He works across a variety of media platforms and always manages to excel, something which not every artist can do. Simply put, Ruh bhai’s work is phenomenal.

Check out his work on his work at www.visualdhikr.com

lots of things to look out for

Posted under Thoughts

Was crawling the web looking at art when i came across a site with some of the most magnificent calligraphy ever. the Ozcay brothers have some super talent. was in awe over their work. how i wish i had such skill…. but all i can do is try so iA will be going to a calligraphy workshop tomorrow by Samir Malik. learnt so much last time from him. hope this time is even better.

Salam Cafe is a hilarious comedy show from Australia. Defo worth watching :)

Islam Expo looks more and more attractive as it gets closer. Not only is Ruh gonna showcase new canvases, not only are Outlandish gonna be performing, but i hear AA may be doing some live painting! i cant wait!! :D
